Job Description

Anticipated Project Length: October 1-December 1

Estimated Hours Per Week: 30 hours

Bracketing COP29 in 2024, Abt needs a content writer who combines journalistic expertise with a deep understanding of climate change and familiarity with environmental and/or development policy.

The writer will craft compelling content and reports that resonate with UN, US, UK, Australia and global country-level policymakers and influencers.

The writer will play a vital role as part of the COP29 team, including Abt’s Climate Change Office and corporate Marketing & Communications (MarComm) department

Tasks:

  • Research, investigate, and develop media-savvy content and reports related to climate change, environmental policies, and sustainability.
  • Produce high-quality written materials, including slipsheets, talking points, blogs, social media, and press releases tailored for UN bodies or Country-level Government audiences.
  • Implement strong storytelling techniques to present complex information in an engaging, accessible manner.

Technical Skills Needed

  • Proven experience in journalism, reporting, or content creation, especially in topics related to climate change, sustainability, or environmental issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to create compelling, accurate, and well-researched content for informed, professional audiences.
  • Strong writing, editing, and investigative skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to work with data and research to substantiate reporting.
  • Understanding of global climate change policies, environmental science, and related fields.
  • Familiarity with international frameworks such as the Paris Agreement, IPCC reports, or UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for conducting interviews and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of donor communications needs and preferences, including at least one of the following: USAID, FCDO, DFAT, GCF
